Clear the path

Move furniture, rugs and breakables away from the work area and from the route the crew will use. Clear the driveway if a truck or dumpster is coming.

Protect what stays

Cover furniture and floors that cannot move and take art and mirrors off nearby walls. Many crews bring drop cloths, and extra protection never hurts.

Plan for pets, family and quiet

Decide where pets and children will be during the work. If you work from home, plan a quiet room for the noisiest hours.

Know the basics

Tell the crew where to park and which doors to use, and show them the water shutoff and the electrical panel. Keep your questions near the door for the end of the day.
