Outlets and switches
Warm, loose or discolored outlets, sparks and buzzing are signs to stop using that outlet and call an electrician.
Breakers and the panel
Breakers that trip often, flickering lights and a crowded panel suggest the system is working too hard. An older panel may not fit modern needs.
Safety devices
Test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms monthly. Ground-fault outlets in kitchens, baths and outdoors protect against shock, and a pro can add them where needed.
Plan for new loads
New appliances, electric vehicle chargers, hot tubs and workshops can need their own circuits. Talk to a pro before you plug in something big.
