No. 2 min read

Move water away from the house

Clean gutters, downspouts that discharge several feet from the foundation and soil that slopes away from the walls do most of the work.

Check inside

Look under sinks, around toilets, behind the washer and near the water heater. A small drip caught early is a small fix.

Watch the damp places

Basements and crawl spaces collect moisture. A dehumidifier, a vapor barrier and good ventilation keep them dry.

If water gets in

Shut off the source, move belongings and call a remediation pro quickly. Drying within a day or two helps prevent mold.

Questions

Good questions, straight answers.

How fast does mold start?

It can begin within a day or two in damp conditions, so quick drying matters.

Should I photograph the damage?

Yes. Photos and notes help with insurance and with the remediation plan.
