Roof, gutters and exterior

Look for winter damage on shingles, siding and trim. Clean gutters and check that downspouts move water away from the house.

Cooling and plumbing

Change the filter, clear the outdoor unit of leaves and schedule a tune-up before the first hot day. Check hoses and faucets for winter damage.

Yard and drainage

Rake, edge beds, refresh mulch and look for low spots where water collects. Spring is a great time to plan a patio, fence or planting.

Inside the house

Test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, deep clean the carpets and open the windows for fresh air. A spring declutter is a gift to yourself.
